Regional Meeting on Enhancing Participatory Democracy Practices and Tools in Parliamentary Work

SimSim-Participation Citoyenne, in collaboration with The Regional Observatory for the Right to Information in the region of Fès-Meknès, organized a regional meeting on September 5, 2024, in Fès. The event was attended by civil society representatives in the area, as well as members of parliament.

The meeting served as a platform to discuss the participatory democracy tools within Parliament, familiarize attendees with the Committee on Petitions’ roles and achievements, and provide information on how to access parliamentary information.

The meeting aimed to support the House of Representatives’ efforts in engaging with its environment, promote the participatory democracy experience in Parliament, and raise awareness of the importance of participatory democracy within civil society. Additionally, it sought to improve citizens’ experiences in advocacy through participatory democracy mechanisms.

This event was part of the “Nouabook – Fostering Parliamentarian Transparency” project, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The project seeks to promote parliamentary openness and strengthen citizen participation by increasing the capacity of citizens and civil society organizations to engage in communication and advocacy with the Parliament.

SimSim-Participation Citoyenne is a non-profit and independent Moroccan organization that aims to use ICT to enhance the participation of citizens in the management of public affairs and to support public institutions in responding to their participation by the principles of good governance.

The Regional Observatory for the Right to Information is a non-profit organization that aims to support and protect the right of citizens to access information related to the management of local public affairs, with a focus on programs and public policies. The observatory seeks to empower citizens to actively participate in decision-making by promoting participatory democracy and enhancing their role in monitoring and evaluating public policies.
